With so many styles and colours to choose from it’s difficult to choose just one wool sweater from Icewear. But there is more to the Icewear range than beauty and style. The brand started over fifty years ago offering expertly crafted woollen clothing from Icelandic sheep.
Centuries-old tradition woven in with cutting-edge productionIcelanders have been making clothing from Iceland’s sheep for hundreds of years, and crucially because Iceland is an island the sheep remain the same as they were all those years ago. Indeed, Icelandic sheep are one of the purest sheep breeds in the world. They are used to harsh conditions, being tough and healthy with a dual coated fleece that features a long external coat known as “tog” and a finer internal layer of coat called “þel”. Tog wool is long, hardy and waterproof and þel is soft and delicate. Together they are insulating and offer excellent protection against cold weather.

Use minimal washing detergent when you occasionally wash your jumper and lay it out to dry to prevent stretching of the sweater. Even before washing, airing it out might suffice. The natural anti-bacterial qualities will keep your jumpers cleaner longer.
Icelandic sheep have been bred in isolation for more than 1,000 years. Their wool has developed unique qualities as a result, especially in response to the harsh climate of Iceland. Þel and tog make up two layers of unique fibers in this singular wool.
